FIR REGISTERED AGAINST RESTAURANT OWNER FOR SERVING LIQUOR WITHOUT LICENSE
THE EXCISE DEPARTMENT TIGHTENS NOOSES AROUND BARS OPERATING LATE HOURS AND RESTAURANTS SERVING LIQUORS WITHOUT A LICENSE
Ludhiana, August 13 (Manpreet Singh Arora) Tightening nooses around restaurants/bars serving liquor without a license and operating after permissible hours, the Excise department has got an FIR registered against a restaurant namely Aman Chicken situated at Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana.
Divulging the details, ETO Harjot Bedi said that on the directives of Excise Commissioner Punjab Varun Roojam, a special drive has been launched against such violators in the state. He said that only licensed restaurants/bars have been allowed to serve liquor on their premises that too within permissible timings i.e. till 1 am.
Following the directions, Deputy Commissioner Excise Patiala Zone Surinder Garg further directed the field officers to conduct surprise checking at restaurants/bars falling within their jurisdiction.
Mr. Bedi also mentioned that a special checking drive has been initiated in Ludhaiana Division wherein all restaurants/bars were being checked to ensure that no one was violating the government norms. He said that strict action would be taken in case of any bar was found operating after 1 am. Likewise, serving liquor without a license is also a criminal offense under which FIR would be lodged against violators, he added.
During the checking, bar owners were warned against late-night operations as some bars were also challenged a few days back for remaining open after 1 am. He states that the drive against illegal drinking places and late-night operations of the bar will remain to continue in the coming days.
